Scalpel…Clamp…Tweet?!?
Wisconsin’s first twittered surgery is taking place this morning. Aurora Health Care is the first hospital system to be posting live updates 140 characters at a time of a bi-lateral knee replacement. This is a fascinating use of social media to educate the public on the actual process of this surgery including pictures.
By the time you read this post, the surgery may be over, but you can check out the updates by following Aurora_Health on Twitter. I can imagine many positive uses for social media for the health care industry, especially in communicating with relatives of patients, support groups and forums where people can answers in plain English. I love this initiative by Aurora but for the patients sake…I hope none of today’s posts by the surgeon include “OMG” or worse yet “WTF”. LOL
